There is something about the forest that is difficult to explain. You can walk through the same forest many times and never see exactly the same thing twice. The light changes, the colours change, and the landscape is constantly evolving. A fallen branch suddenly catches your attention, a piece of bark reveals an incredible texture, or autumn leaves create patterns that look almost like paintings. This is where Feereet begins, in the forest.
I have always enjoyed spending time in nature, walking through the woods, observing the surroundings, listening to birds, watching animals, and simply taking the time to notice the small details that are so easy to miss. The more time I spend in the forest, the more I see it as a place where art is constantly being created.
The Forest Is an Artist
An old tree carries years of its life in its bark. Its textures are shaped by growth, weather, sunlight, moisture, insects, and time. A fallen branch slowly changes as the forest takes it back. Autumn leaves create temporary compositions of colour and texture, while moss, cracks, and weathered wood add new layers to the landscape.
Even the marks left by animals can become beautiful forms. A beaver-chewed tree can look almost like a piece of contemporary sculpture, while a woodpecker's hollow tells a story of life within the forest. These natural details are some of the things that inspire Feereet.
Rather than trying to recreate nature artificially, I want to preserve something that nature has already created.
From the Forest to Feereet
The idea behind Feereet is simple: nature has already done much of the designing.
My role is to discover the potential in natural materials and carefully transform them into something that can continue their story inside a home. Pine bark can become wall décor. A naturally formed hollow can become the focal point of a lamp. A unique piece of wood can become part of a sculptural object.
I don't want every piece to look the same. The shape of the bark, its texture, natural imperfections, colours, cracks, and marks all influence the final creation. In a world filled with mass-produced objects designed to be identical, there is something special about creating pieces that can never be perfectly replicated.
Green Thinking Is More Than a Label
For me, green thinking is not simply about putting the word sustainable on a product description. It is about changing the way we look at materials and understanding that something which might appear ordinary or forgotten can still have value.
A fallen branch, a piece of bark, or a naturally weathered surface can have another life when we learn to appreciate it rather than immediately see it as waste.
At the same time, respecting nature means remembering that the forest is not a warehouse of materials, it is a living ecosystem. Feereet is inspired by nature, but nature itself always comes first.
The Beauty of Imperfection
Perhaps the most important thing nature has taught me is that perfection is overrated.
A crack can be beautiful. An irregular shape can be more interesting than a perfect one. Different shades and textures can create more depth than a perfectly uniform surface. A weathered piece of wood can tell a much richer story than something flawless and manufactured.
That is why I try to work with natural materials rather than against them. I don't want to erase everything that makes them unique just to make them easier to reproduce. I want the finished piece to still feel connected to where it came from.
A Piece of Nature With a Story
When someone brings a Feereet piece into their home, I hope they see more than an object. I hope they see the forest behind it, the tree, the texture, the weather, the passing of time, and perhaps even the animal that left its mark.
A piece of natural bark can become a quiet reminder that beauty doesn't always have to be created from scratch.
Sometimes, it is already there. We simply have to notice it.
Feereet is my way of bringing a small part of that feeling into the home, the feeling of standing in a forest, looking closely at something ordinary, and suddenly realizing that it is beautiful.
There are still many forests to explore, textures to discover, and natural forms waiting to become something new. I don't know exactly what every future Feereet creation will look like, and that's part of what makes the process exciting.
Because when nature is involved, you never have complete control over the final result, and I wouldn't want it any other way.
